February 5 Calling All Amateur Thespians! Winter Stock is here! Auditions for Horton Foote’s famous texas play, "The Trip to Bountiful". 5:00 6:30 p.m. at Treasures of the Gulf Museum in Port Isabel. The cast includes four men and four women ranging in age from 25 to 70. The readers theatre style production, which will be staged at the historic Port Isabel Yacht Club on February 22 and 23, is part of the Heritage Series sponsored by The Museums of Port Isabel and El Paseo Arts Foundation. Both organizations hope to spotlight Texas history and culture through the annual Heritage arts events and want to engage area residents and visitors in the process of “telling the Texas stories.” Prior acting experience is not required; aspiring cast members need only have a willingness to work with others over a three-week rehearsal period to have fun creating an evening of theatre for local audiences. The Trip to Bountiful is the poignant story of Mrs. Watts, an aging widow living with her son and daughter-in-law in a three-room flat in Houston, Texas in the 1950’s. Fearing that her presence may be an imposition on others, and chafing under the watchful eye of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Watts imagines that if she can get away and return to her old home in the town of Bountiful, she is sure to regain her strength, dignity and peace of mind. First presented on television, then produced on Broadway, and finally adapted into an Academy Award winning film, the play has all the qualities to create the rarest of theatre experiences, an evening which will prove an indelible memory. For additional information on the auditions or if you are interested in working as part of the production crew, contact JoAnn Evans at 772-9097.
