ORGANIZATION OF LATIN AMERICAN CLUB~ <Our Past Index>


In an article published in the Wednesday, March 14, 1934 issue of the Port Isabel Pilot reported on the organization of a Latin American Club. The article reads as follows:

The Progressive Latin American Club, an organization composed of Latin American citizens of Port Isabel, at a meeting recently reelected the following officers for the ensuing year; President, Pablo Valent; First Vice President, Juan Vega; Second Vice President, G. Gonzales; First Secretary, Gregorio Tamayo and Second Secretary Justo Barrientez.

A permanent committee to represent the club in all affairs was appointed and consists of the following members: M. Galvan, chairman, R. Ramirez, G. Tamayo, J. Garza, J. Vega, T. Pena, J. A. Tamayo, G. Gonzales and J. Lopez.

Contrary to first reports, the Progressive Latin American Club is not a political organization, but is an organization for the purpose of the betterment of Latin American citizens and creating a better citizenship.
