In an article published in the Wednesday, April 5, 1933 issue of the Port Isabel Pilot featured a story about a large amount of fresh fish donated to a charity. The article reads as follows:
Three quarters of a ton of fish were donatd last week to the Volunteers of America in Brownsville by G. J. Weikel who operates the Star and Crescent fisheries at Laguna Vista near Port Isabel.
Over a thousand pounds of the fish were distributed to the needy of Brownsville, the remainder being served in the Volunteer’s home.
