TOURIST TRAVEL IS ON INCREASE~ <Our Past Index>

In an article published in the Wednesday, November 2, 1932 issue of the Port Isabel Pilot discussed the tourist count for the month of October. The article reads as follows:

“Tourist travel is on the increase,” said “Dad” Coleman, the curio dealer
on the bay front whose hobby is listing all out-of-state cars he observes parked on the bay front between Powers and Maxan Streets.

According to “Dad’s” tabulation, during the month of October, 106 cars with license plates representing 23 states, the District of Columbia and Mexico where parked within the confines of this one block.

Oklahoma still continues to have the distinction of being represented by the most automobiles, an even 25 from this state being noted, with Illinois second, just 7 less than Oklahoma, or 18 cars. Other states and the number of cars were: California 5, Ohio 7, Kansas 9, Kentucky 1, Pennsylvania 4, new York 3, Louisiana 7, Michigan 4, Indiana 4, New Mexico 2, Arkansas 1, Iowa 2, Nebraska 1, Colorado 2, South Carolina 1, Mississippi 2, Missouri 2, Tennessee 1, West Virginia 1, Wisconsin 1, District of Columbia 1, and Old Mexico 1.
