In an article published in the Wednesday, November 29, 1933 issue of the Port Isabel Pilot ran a story of about a sunken oil barge. The article reads as follows:
An endeavor to salvage the steel oil barge of the A.G. & P. Dredging Company which sank at sea during the Tampico hurricane and later washed aground in the gulf surf about 1,000 feet off Del Mar Beach on Brazos Island is now in progress.
The barge, 30 by 90 feet and drawing 7 feet, is aground in about two fathoms of water, in the breakers. Machinery for the purpose of raising it was shipped here form Houston by the James Gleave Salvaging Company of Galveston. The motorboat Gulf Ranger, belonging to J.W. Pate, has been chartered to be used in the salvaging operations.
