In an article published in the Wednesday, November 29, 1933 issue of the Port Isabel Pilot featured a story about planting palm trees in the yard of the Shary Yacht Club. The Shary Yacht Club is currently known as the Yacht Club which has recently reopened. The new owners have planted new palms! The article reads as follows:
The appearance of the lawn about the yacht basin of the Shary Yacht Club, is being much improved by the planting of a number of ornamental palms along the drive way. The palms were brought here from the nursery of John H. Shary, owner of the Yacht Club, at Sharyland.
Plans are also being made for shelling the street leading to the clubhouse from Highway No. 100, thus providing an all weather road for the patrons of this popular resort.
