Lighthouse Establishment Cinema Survey


The Lighthouse Establishment Cinema will begin Season 8 on June 15, 2012! Six showings are scheduled for the summer and one during Halloween and Day of the Dead weekend. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets, picnics and friends and family for a memorable evening on the grounds of the historic Port Isabel Lighthouse.

The 2012 Summer Schedule includes the following dates: June 15, June 29, July 6, July 20, August 3 and August 17. All movies start on Friday at 9:30 p.m. just after the South Padre Island Fireworks display over the Laguna Madre Bay.

Museums Telling Our Stories ~ CHAMPION Family Origins 8/26 6pm

“The Champion Family Origins”

The Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre Museum Foundation are proud to present its “Telling Our Stories” Series of 2010 on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at 6:00 pm in the Treasures of the Gulf Museum, 317 E. Railroad Ave.

John Champion, a descendant of the Champion family will present “The Champion Family Origins”, the history of the Champion Family’s origins and how they came to live in America. Mr. Champion is a descendant of John Champion who was the brother of famed Charles Champion. Mr. Champion learned a lot from his father, A.A. Champion, who was a local historian and mentor.

In July of 2009, Mr. Champion gave a presentation on the Champion family in honor of the new Champion headstone dedicated at the Point Isabel Cemetery.

The Museums of Port Isabel welcome all visitors and locals to attend this FREE presentation. Drinks and refreshments will be served.

Museums ‘Telling Our Stories’ 5/27 6pm TURTLES!

THE TURTLE LADY LEGACY (5/27 @ 6 p.m.)

The Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre Museum Foundation are proud to present its “Telling Our Stories” Series of 2010 on Thursday, May 27, at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum, 317 E. Railroad Ave. at 6:00 p.m. Mary Ann Tous, niece of famed Ila Fox Loetcher aka “The Turtle Lady”, who began her work on sea turtle conservation in 1965 and was a pioneer in her field by playing a vital role in protecting the Kemp Ridley Sea Turtles, will give a presentation on the history of the Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtles and the efforts that go towards their protection. Ila was a major inspiration to her niece, Mary, and in 2005, Mary Ann Tous founded a non profit organization called “The Turtle Lady Legacy”. Their goals are to educate and continue the safety and conservation of majestic sea turtles by following in Ila Fox Loetscher’s footsteps. Recent events causing a massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico are threatening these marine animals and their nesting habitats.

All locals and visitors are welcomed to attend this free presentation. Drinks and Refreshments will be served.

Museums of Port Isabel Telling Our Stories 4/30 (Friday)

“The History of the Freemasons” presented by Warren Winger, Masonic Lodge Number 33, Friday, April 30th.

The Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre Museum Foundation are proud to present its “Telling Our Stories” Series of 2010 on Friday, April 30, at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum, 317 E. Railroad Ave. at 6:00 p.m. Warren Winger, of the Masonic Lodge Number 33 will present “The History of the Freemasons”. Mr. Winger has been a Mason for forty-one years and is credited as being one of the founding members for reviving Point Isabel Lodge 33 in December 2007. Lodge 33 was originally petitioned and granted in 1847, but never established until 2007. His presentation will grant the public insight into the Freemasons and their influential impact on Texas history.

An exhibition on the Freemasons will be on display in the Historic Champion Building till the end of the year.

Both Treasures of the Gulf Museum and the Port Isabel Historical Museum will be open for guests to tour during the evening. Drinks and Refreshments will be served. All locals and visitors are welcomed to attend. No admission fee. Open to the public.
